22nd ICID Congress and 65th IEC Meeting

 

The International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID) established in 1950 in the leading scientific, technical and non-profit Non-Government Organization. ICID, through its network of professionals spread across more than a hundred countries, has facilitated sharing of experiences and transfer of water management technology for over half-a-century. ICID supports capacity development, stimulates research and innovation and strives to promote policies and programs to enhance sustainable development of irrigated agriculture through a comprehensive water management framework. The mission of ICID is to stimulate and promote the development and application of the arts, sciences and techniques of engineering, agriculture, economics, ecological and social sciences in managing water and land resources for irrigation, drainage, flood management, for achieving sustainable agriculture water management.

 

The 22nd International Congress on Irrigation and Drainage with the main theme “Securing Water for Food and Rural Community under Climate Change” was held during 14-16 September 2014 at Kimdaejung Convention Centre in Gwangju Metropolitan City, Republic of Korea, organized and hosted by Korean National Committee of ICID (KCID). The Congress was attended by more than 1100 delegates from 61 countries.  Based on 228 papers and posters from 42 countries submitted and the participants discussed the two Questions i.e. Q. 58: “How Irrigation and Drainage play an important role in Climate Change Adaptation?” and Q.59: “How do Irrigation and Drainage Interventions secure food production and livelihood for the rural community”. During the Congress, in addition to addressing these two questions, a Round Table meeting on ‘Irrigated Agriculture and Development in Developing Countries’, a Symposium on “Non-point Pollution – Best Management Practices”, special sessions on “New Partnership for the Rural Development”, and a number of side events were also organized.

 

Dr. Saeed Nairizi, from Iran was elected president of ICID at 65th International Executive Council Meeting. Nepal ICID (NENCID) expresses hearty congratulation to the president and wishes him for the successful tenure.
